Country House Montali

Its 25 years now that Alberto , Malu and their Chefs cook vegetarian professionally in their previous restaurant and now in their hotel.

International famous press, like the Belgian De Standaard and many others, have now acclaimed their place, as The Best Vegetarian Restaurant in the World.

The same has been said by Antoinette Hertsenberger, the well known Dutch anchor woman, during The Tv Show , a popular Tv program with Ivo Niehe in Holland

The people in Montali have been very happy about all those international recognitions. Nevertheless  they think that guests should stay in the Hotel with a spirit free of any media or  television interference to allow them to fully taste the food and enjoy the marvellous location.

Nowadays there are few places on Earth where one can unwind in an atmosphere of absolute peace and tranquillity.

Country House Montali is the perfect antidote to stress and exhaustion.

Firstly, one can relax in a family-run hotel which boasts only 10 rooms. You can also be sure that in the swimming pool, with its breathtaking views over the surrounding countryside, there will never be more than a very small number of people.

No towels on chairs at the crack of dawn to reserve poolside spots!  The hotel is off the beaten track, situated on a plateau at the end of a scenic gravel road in an elevated position, with panoramic views in all directions from sunrise to sunset.
The property lies within a 25-acre olive grove surrounded by an evergreen wood. There are numerous walks across the hills and also right down to the shores of Lake Trasimeno.

The 10 guest rooms are arranged in three separate single-storey stone buildings, all designed by the proprietor, an architect who has specialised in restoring historic monuments. Apart from the charm of the buildings, all the rooms are equipped with modern comforts: private facilities, telephone, hand-carved teakwood furniture, original oil paintings, and with patios or verandahs to enjoy the cool evenings breezes and magnificent sunsets. But no TV to disturb the peace!
But the main reason Montali has become such a sought-after spot is the gourmet vegetarian cuisine, which has also been featured in the BBCs travel programme.

Some folk may balk at the thought of vegetarian food. But, in this case, the proprietors have developed a unique and extensive repertoire of exquisite meals. The overriding influence is Mediterranean with subtle hints of nouvelle and haute cuisine. Alberto and Malu, who have won several awards for their cooking, are among the few restaurateurs in Europe who can claim 20 years professional experience in this field.

Its therefore not surprising that Montali has appeared in the media, such as on ITV, Channel 5 and in the Daily Mail, which recently sent a journalist to attend a cookery course. The hotel features in Karen Browns famous American guide, in the independent French Guide des Hotels de Charme in Italie, and, last but not least, the Michelin Guide.
Montali is the perfect spot from which to visit all the famous mediaeval cities of Umbria and lower Tuscany such as Assisi, Siena and Gubbio. Most are within one hours drive.
Cookery courses are also available for guests on request.
On some occasions, the proprietors, keen musicians themselves, organise evening concerts in the open, or in a stone building close by.
